RunCloud RunDown – July 30th

It’s that time again, welcome to another Monday edition of the RunCloud RunDown, July 30th.

This week in the blog we have two short articles dealing with two of the most frequently raised support requests/issues. Firstly we look at how you can take advantage of Digital Ocean’s floating IPs with your RunCloud managed servers and web applications. After that we look at exactly what is going on with the dreaded Cloudflare Flexible SSL/Wordpress redirect loop, and then how we can resolve it.

In other news…

The big news of the week was more consolidation, this time it was Slacks acquisition of HipChat from Atlassian and their new partnership. We also learned about Laravel Nova, a new addition to the Laravel suite of products from Taylor Otwell’s team. Gitlab released their 2018 Global Developer Report, which makes for a very interesting read. Across at the Wistia blog, the founders, (and CEO and CTO ) have published their insightful story about taking Wistia from a start up to one of the powerhouses in online video hosting.

Daniel Jeffries at Hackernoon suggests why he thinks we need open source now more than every before. At the MalCare blog, Sophia Lawrence bring us a guide to a super successful AppSumo promotion. Jeff Chandler at WP Tavern starts to look at the future of theme support for the upcoming Gutenberg editor in WordPress. Y Combinator have announced their 2018 Startup School. Google Cloud Platform have launched a LA Cloud region, and Matt Shaw explains how he has migrated to a Windows local development environment for WordPress.

In our tutorials this week we have a step by step guide to RESTful API design from Tanmay Deshpande at Hackernoon, Jonathan Fulton at Videoblocks gives us a Web Architecture 101 class, while over at Smashing Magazine Jakub introduces us to notifications made easy for WordPress.

We also have a guide to debugging PHP in VSCode, we find out about the weird things variable fonts can do in CSS, then learn about extending Laravel collections with macros. We finish off this week with a guide to working fast in *NIX, learn a bit more about GraphQL, and see how we can set up routing in PHP applications using the Symfony routing component.
