RunCloud RunDown – June 11th

Another week another RunDown! A quiet week on the RunCloud front regarding news, but no news is good news right? And I hear that the team has something coming just around the corner, but you will have to wait and see for that!

It’s WordCamp EU 2018 this coming weekend, and yours truly will be in attendance as the RunCloud ambassador bearing gifts and swag and stuff, there is a form in the post below to register for some swag and to help me coordinate a meetup.

In new news and other thing things, we have a WordPress Code of Honour, an exploration of whether the fundamental changes in privacy laws will lead to some fangled Web 3.0, Rasmus Lerdorf introduces the year in PHP for 2018, Gitlab doubles down and makes the most of their time in the sun with more Outreach to the community, someone said VIM is the best IDE and is probably looking for a fight, we have more more more on Privacy Policies (Yay!), PHP7.3.0 Alpha and Laravel 5.6.24 are both released, Delicious Brains extol the virtues of Amazon SES and CloudWatch, everyone who isn’t jumping ship to Gitlab can learn how to best optimise their Github profile, FB continue to blunder around disclosing peoples private things like a drunken relative, Laravel Events is out, Ivan Neto shares his experiences of remote dev work for over 8 years, and we look at tweaking Docker for better PHP performance on Mac… phew that was a lot!

And if leveling up skills is your thing, we got you covered. We have a fantastic tutorial on building a hybrid Single Page App in WordPress with Vue.js, we go beyond OOP and explore how best to integrate functional paradigms in our PHP code, do some PHPUnit testing on Laravel Lumen, Boost site performance with PhpFastCache, test our knowledge of the 100 most popular PHP functions, set up a Vagrant on a VirtualBox on Windows, Learn how to use Laravel Echo Server, continue the series on developing a PHP framework, and last but not least… CSS Tricks (of all people!) brings us a guide to learning Gutenberg for WordPress development.

All in all, its quite a lot… enjoy!
